This study is taken from Romans 13:1-8
This what I got from the Truth Project by Focus on the Family
Part 1
Facts about government:
According to Romans 13: 4,5 the government is here to:
1. Punish evil
2. Condone good
But punishing evil needs to be distinguished from taking revenge. God has the revenge and has delegated power to the king to punish evil. But also a king needs to know what good and evil is. The question is does God’s laws matter, even if he exisits is he necessary? We seem to be pretty self-suficient.
This is something you should find out for yourself. And I have a good way for you to get started. No, it’s not pray to God and he will reveal his will and etcetera etcetera.
Research this: When man rejects God people start dying left and right becasue of the government. For example Hitler, Stalin, and the 1st century Phrarasees.
Part 2
The state is one that helps are society. It is not the big kahuna. It is not the boss. I would say God is, but we don’t have to go there. That is not the point of this article. The point is the State cannot override or penetrate the community, man and God, labor, family or church.
The welfare program in the state has become a compeition to the family. It can invite the man out of the home. I’m not straight and forward against the welfare programs but it should help the family not overly compensate for the rainy days. We may have them but there should be other factors to help the people in the state. Community and church for example. Prime examples! And if the church isn’t helping then they are to blame as well as the state. How many church members with the means to help are showing less privliged how to fill out the government forms?
Research this: In the end of the Roman Empire there was an increased desire to live off the state.
The state cannot take the the job as if it is God. Saying that it can no regulate other factors that really out of its jurisdiction. Like family(how to parent), church, community, labor, man and God. Does that make a profound statement? Would that eradicate a lot of problems in our different societys? For you especially who live in a democracy, learning or at least being aware of things like this will help change your world for the better. It doesn’t what religon you are. The State the government can be a very destructive tool. Handle with care.
