Night Wings

For this tutorial we will need to install some grass brushes. I suggest you use devianart.com
Then unzip the brushes and then search your GIMP folder for ‘brushes’ and place the brushes in there.
If you already have your Gimp open make sure you refresh your brushes.

Ok now on to the image. You can make this any size but I used 88×31.
Fill it in with black. Make sure your opacity is 100.0

Now you want to make a new layer and call it grass. Change the color to #3ea93e and add the grass along the bottom. You may have to double brush it, go over it twice for it to really appear.

Make a new layer called moon.
Now, here we need to make a brush. In your brush window and select the icon with the pencil.
Shape:circle
Radius:67.5
Spikes:4
Hardness:0.91
Aspect Ratio:1.0
Angle:0.0
Spacing:20.0

Make your color #f5ffae. Your going to put the brush in the top left. Scale your new brush in the tool options window to 0.13. You want to put the moon a little below the starting line of the grass. So you may not want to scale it as much. Now go to your layers window and drag the moon layer down so that it is under the grass layer. Now your grass is on top of your moon.

Make a new layer and name it butterfly. Make sure the layer is before the other layers. You don’t want the butterfly behind anything.
Now were at a tricky part. Use this image…

You can copy and it will paste in your editor. Let the selection square stay on the butterfly.
You are going to try to situate as far left as you can without making the center seem empty. You can put the left wing in the moon a little bit. But make sure you get the butterfly low in the image but not completly off it. You can look below for a reference.

Now we make the text with the color #ffffff. The size should be 10px. Put it as near the top as you can without making it looked squished in there.

Ok if you want a bigger image a simple rundown is make it black, brush the bottom with grass, make your moon brush as big as you want. And find a light color butterfly to paste in the middle. I find that a blue color is best for night time looks.

Hope you enjoyed! :)
